With tweet on Manmohan, BJP attacks Congress stance on CAB

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh

New Delhi,  Amid the controversy over the Citizenship Amendment Bill, the BJP has launched its latest offensive against the Congress by circulating excerpts of a parliamentary proceeding transcript supposedly dating to 2003 to expose the party’s “doublespeak” on the issue.

The tweet by BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya displays excerpts showing the Congress veteran Manmohan Singh favouring a liberal stance on the issue.

Contrary to the Congress party’s stance at present, the excerpts show the former Prime Minister, who was then Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, expressing support for accommodating persecuted minorities from neighbouring Muslim countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The Union Cabinet had cleared the bill on Wednesday and it is expected to be tabled in Parliament in the next week.
