Speaker expunges Pragya remark on Godse

New Delhi,  The Lok Sabha Speaker on Wednesday expunged a remark made by BJP MP Pragya Thakur describiing Nathuram Godse, the killer of Mahatma Gandhi, as “deshbhakt” (patriot).

In a discussion on the Special Protection Group (Amendment) Bill when DMK member A. Raja cited Nathuram Godse’s statement on why he killed Gandhi, Thakur interrupted and told Raja not to give example of a ‘deshbhakt’.

Raja said that Godse admitted he had nursed a grudge against Gandhiji for 32 years before finally deciding to assassinate him.

On Thakur’s ‘deshbhakt’ remark, all opposition members stood up and protested. The BJP members then persuaded Thakur to sit down.
