Srinagar, (Samajweekly) The People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) on Thursday released a list of seats allocated among the allies for the first phase of polling for District Development Councils (DDCs) in Jammu and Kashmir, to be held in eight phases beginning November 28.

Out of a list of 22 candidates for 17 constituencies released by the Kashmir-based conglomerate of mainstream parties, the National Conference will fight 16 segments, the Peoples Democratic Party four and the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference two.

On Sunday, the PAGD announced that it had unanimously decided to fight the DDC elections unitedly.

The PAGD was floated on October 7 for the reversal of constitutional changes made to Jammu and Kashmir by the Centre on August 5 last year.

National Conference President Farooq Abdullah was appointed as the PAGD President, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti it’s Vice President, People’s Conference leader Sajad Lone as Spokesperson, and CPI-M leader Yousuf Taragami as Convener. The flag of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir has been adopted as the symbol of the alliance.
