My favourite subject is Maths – Samarth Kesthur

(Samaj Weekly)- Hi my name is Samarth Kesthur and I am 10 years old. I like to play outside and enjoy video games. My hobbies are playing Badminton, Piano, Swimming and Teakwando.

I loved maths at young age, so my parents started teaching maths. Thou I was good at it, but was very slow.

That’s when I was introduced to abacus, which showed difference in my studies. Now my classmates call me Human Calculator. I started enjoying this new and wierd concept of abacus, which was hard at the start. Starting at finger theory (which you could go up to 99 rather than 10) then moving on to abacus theory which was also hard at the start, but you will get used to it. Later you would start doing mental theory which felt impossible. Just when I got used to it, they would give me even harder work just like that I kept moving up levels and kept getting hard work that would challenge me until I had finished all 11 levels. Believe it or not that was 3 years and 4 months ago, but it felt like it was just a week ago.

My parents encouraged & helped me a lot too. Abacus helped me become more independent, increased self confidence, I started expressing myself more and got a little too talkative as well.

I had a great time. Dr. Rashmi and the abacus team helped me a lot to. Thank you abacus for all you have given me.
