Mamata wants meeting with Centre on infiltration through borders

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata, (Samajweekly) Claiming that she had information that infiltration was taking place into her state through some of the international borders, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday suggested to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that a meeting be called by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the issue.

Banerjee told mediapersons here that she suggested strengthening of border patrolling during a video conference with Modi.

“I said during the conference that we have got information that infiltrators were being pushed inside our country through some of the borders. Often local adjustments take place in those areas involving the infiltrators. And ultimately, Bengal has to face it,” she said at the state secretariat Nabanna.

Banerjee said with Shah being present at the conference, she requested Modi to call a meeting.

“I also asked for special measures so that the Covid-19 infection cannot spread through the border. I said there is need for strengthening the border,” she said.

West Bengal shares borders with Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh.
