Ignoring protesting citizen for months by their democratically elected government is irrational – Tari Atwal, President ARSB

Birmingham (Samaj Weekly)- A large Indian community is living in the UK from the last six decades. Although they have been living here in the UK, they still consider India as their home country; and still are very much attached to their country of birth. They feel the same emotionally as any Indian national residing in India would feel.

Since the Kisan Morcha started about ten months ago, Indians residing in the UK are tormented. Their agony is due to witnessing their families and relatives enduring the extreme weather, living in very harsh conditions and living away from their families. They are grieved even further by the fact that an elected government has shown no empathy or sympathy to their needs and demands.

Asian Rationalist Society Britain (ARSB) is a grass root organisation that works with the Asian community, especially the Indian community, settled here in the UK to promote self care for their mental health and well being. Many members of the Indian community have contacted ARSB for help as the situation in India is impacting their mental health. They are worried and concerned about the detrimental impact the three farming laws will have on the livelihoods of their families and relatives. They are equally concerned about community cohesion here in the UK.

ARSB has noted a very strong support for farmers’ movement among its members, the Indian community in the UK and worldwide. ARSB members wish it to express its solidarity with the farmers’ movement. ARSB request and urge the Indian government to address the farmers’ demands as a matter of urgency and find a solution satisfactory to agitating farmers.
