Charan Sekhon, a Bedford based Senior Environment Officer and Diversity Project Coordinator for the Environment Agency East Anglia Area, received a Loyalty Commendation Award for his 20 years of contributions in protecting and improving the environment.

Charan is the first senior Sikh officer from Indian origin and BAME background to achieve this milestone. Last year, he was awarded Diversity Champion Runner-up Award by the Chair of Environment Agency, Emma Howard Boyd in recognition of his work for equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).

Area Director Simon Howkins presented the award to Charan at an event held at Agency’s Brampton office. On this occasion Simon said ‘Charan has served the Agency for 20 years and made significant contributions for the environment, promoting equality and diversity within the Agency and supporting staff members through his union work with Unison. I would like to thank him for all his services and wish him all the very best for the future’.

Charan said ‘I feel proud to work for the Agency that has supported me to play my part in different fields. Nothing is more satisfying than contributing to protect and enhance the environment and working for an organisation that values diversity and equality. I would like to thank all my colleagues at the Agency and Unison for their huge support. This Award will always remind me to work even harder for equality and environmental sustainability.’
