BJP manifesto: AAP calls it ‘jumla patra’, Congress ‘jhansa patra’

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh

New Delhi,  Soon after the BJP released its manifesto for the February 8 Delhi Assembly polls on Friday, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) called it another ‘jumla patra’ from the saffron party through which it will ‘cheat’ the people.

The Congress, on the other hand, called it another ‘jhansa patra’ to throw dust into the eyes of the people of Delhi.

Speaking to the media, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its promise of a clean Delhi, saying the saffron party had the responsibility of cleaning the city for the last 13 years, as the BJP is in power in the MCD — the body responsible for taking care of cleanliness in the national capital.

“The BJP has released another ‘jumla patra’, an order to cheat the people of the city. In the ‘Sankalp Patra’, the BJP has said that it will stop the free subsidies of the AAP government,” Singh said.

He said the BJP has nothing in the manifesto on electricity. “On water, they said they will end tanker mafia. In fact, they had let it develop.”

The MP also said that 93 per cent people are already getting piped water in Delhi and “they say they will give piped water to all by 2024”.

“Those who exploited people through sealing drive are now promising an end to sealing. The BJP was responsible for the sealing in the national capital,” the AAP MP said.

Singh added that “the BJP is saying they will end all our health schemes and bring Ayushman Bharat”.

“The minimum wage of Delhi is Rs 14,000, which means no one in the city will be eligible for the Ayushman Bharat scheme. That means the people will not get our schemes as they (BJP) will end them. Also, they will not be eligible for the Ayushman Bharat,” Singh said.

He also mocked the BJP for its promise of a ‘clean Delhi’, saying they had the responsibility of cleaning Delhi because they hold power in the MCD for the past 13 years.

“The city has three garbage mountains because of the MCD’s failure,” he said.

The BJP in its manifesto said that it will regularise sanitation workers.

“The services are under the Centre. Both MCD and the Centre are being governed by the BJP. What was stopping them until now,” Singh asked.

He also said that the BJP in Haryana is responsible for air pollution in Delhi “and they are talking about cleaning air in the city”.

The MP said, “The ‘jumla patra’, if implemented, will only take Delhi away from progress and push it towards regression.”

Meanwhile, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Subhash Chopra said that BJP’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ for the Delhi Assembly polls was yet another ‘jhansa patra’ to throw dust into the eyes of the people of Delhi to get their votes.

Addressing an election meeting, Chopra said that the promises made by the BJP in its 2014 Lok Sabha manifesto were not fulfilled yet.

“BJP later tried to wriggle out by saying that those were all ‘jhumla’ promises, like bringing back black money stashed away in foreign banks and depositing Rs 15 lakh in every citizen’s bank account,” he said.

Chopra said the BJP manifesto has promised to provide 10 lakh jobs for the youth of Delhi, though it has woefully failed to fulfil its promise of giving 2 crore jobs to the youth of the country every year, a promise it made in the 2014 Lok Sabha election manifesto.

“The country is now staring at the highest unemployment rate in 45 years and several lakhs have been rendered jobless in Delhi due to the sealing drive,” he said.

The Congress and the AAP are yet to release their manifestos for the February 8 Assembly polls.
